The Church, founded by Italian immigrants in the late 1800’s, was recently denied landmark status. Dr. Marilyn Verna and Mario Toglia will discuss the growing concern of losing such a precious historical site. The history and beauty of this particular National Italian Catholic church from its rise to becoming a focal point in the community to its decline after 100 years will be discussed. The building’s significance to the American cultural landscape will be explored and what a small group of preservationist are doing to save the site from demolition and bring it back into the 21st century.
